This project provides a landmark study of the emergent transnational legal order of sanctions that explains how the United States has changed the regulation of financial markets through the imposition of financial sanctions against its enemy states.

This project has lead to various publications, including my second monograph, Gift Exchange: The Transnational History of a Political Idea (Cambridge University Press, 2019), as well as various articles and book chapters that explore how international law and anthropology have shaped how global governance has operated in the long twentieth century.

This project has lead to the publication of various articles, including in Law and Social Inquiry, and book chapters that combine results from interviews with, and surveys distributed to, Swiss, German and French lawyers, which allow us to capture new forms of alienation that lawyers feel at work, as well as the origins of their satisfaction at work and in their personal lives.

This project has lead to various publication including my first monograph Fallout: Nuclear Diplomacy in an Age of Global Fracture (Chicago University Press, 2014), and various articles on the creation of the European Union as a foreign policy actor, or on the expert knowledge practices found in the design of a Weapons of Mass Destruction Free Zone in the Middle East.
